当年snowspring回lulu的帖子, 很好,复制在这里

I am generally very careful when I ski so to minimize any injury.  My worst accident only happen last year on my shoulder but I did take care of it that time and now my body actually improved becuase I started to take care of it after the injury.   In the past, I was very much like many people who took the body for granted and did not take proper care when I have injuries - as long as they do not bother me.  My last accident made me aware of my body much more now and do preventative things that will "preserve" it better for future enjoyment.   I am sure others have more to suggest but at least I can think of these:

1. Take care when there is a change of condition - particularly in soft snow - its covering can be very deceptive and can lead to unexpected falls
2.  Never push yourself beyond the limit - do not wait for tiredness to set in to do your last run.  I would do the last minus one run and then stop.  In other words when you are still feeling good - you can stop without feeling guilty.
3. Do not attempt "spectacular" things without proper preparation - skiing should be progressed gradually.  There are many techniques you should perfect before getting on to the next level.   If you just want the experience - sure - do it - but you know it is at your own risk.
4. Be very careful at intersections - specially at BM - do defensive skiing like driving
5. Have courtesy to other skiers - at the lift - on the slope - do not cut people off.  I see too many people doing that at BM
6. Report to the attendant if there are people drinking and skiinrg/riding - like on the lift line and have a beer can in their hands - that is not allowed.  Also do not drink if you are skiing
7. Use common sense.  A lot of times it is "  Lo ji sung bai"  - tragedy can strike when you are haveing fun
8. Take care of your body after injury.   I have old injury that came to bother me and I did not even know.
9. Do warm up exercise
10. Do daily stretch and do yoga if you know how.

另外一段,也是snowspring, (Norma 是闹妈):

You are most welcome Norma.  I hope that will generate some awareness on safety to the skiers among us.  I see many posts which glorifies dangerous moves and they always make my skin crinch.   If only people know.... and can hold their own without being influenced by peer pressure ......even in skiing.

Another point I came to my mind is an article a couple of weeks ago in the Globe and Mail about Jenn Heil - the mogul champ of Canada and an Olympic  silver medalist.  I notice that many people like to try moguls and think it is cool.   However if you go there be prepared.   I can think of 5 points to minimize injury in that area.

1. Look at condition first - if icy - stay away - it is not worth risking unless you are a die hard type and then you have to prepare for consequences

2. Make sure you have the physical readiness and the technical readiness - make sure you can turn with your feet - like do pivoting and your upper and lower body separation is there  first  You also need to be able to flex you ankle - if you have stiff boot at the ankle and cannot bend it, you will have trouble.

3. Make sure you have core strength - that is the most important - according to Jenn Heil.   If you are sitting back you cannot ski mogul and one of the reasons is you do not have the core strength - or your are not positioned to use your core - when you ski.   You need to work on your core when you are not skiing - like sit up etc to improve your core strength.  You cannot rely everything on your legs/feet.   The core strength carries your upper body into balance.  Without it you cannot ski mogul in a balance manner and you can easily get thrown off and fall.

4. Be careful and not to over stress your knees.  Especially the meniscuss. As well as the ACL.  I see too many people fall in moguls and injure their knees.  Also the pounding can do damage to the knees in the long run.  So pick powder day to do moguls.  It is nice and solft and not so hard on the knee.  One day I was at Windigo in Jan and saw a fellow pounding down the moguls when it is icy and rocky with a great pounding sound everytime he hits the snow.  I felt that his knee may not last very long although he appears to be a young man.

5.  Best to take a proper lesson to learn skiing moguls.  In our ski school in the mogul module, they will make you do various drills and practice before you head into a mogul.  It is safer to learn it that way.  Of course there are exceptions and very althletic people can practice on their own.  But that is minority.

Hope the above helps.  Remember ski to your own ability and not other peoples' ability.   That way you can enjoy skiing for a very long time.   Happy skiing everyone!
