No don't try to use the 'dripping' method for ribbons (the flat one). Ribbons are p-tex material much harder then the candles (the rounded one), closer to those that was used for your ski base and it requires the iron the press the materials in. If you 'drip' it'll comes off from your base easily. Ribbons are more durable for the long run while candles are for temporarily repair. If you want a cheap way to restructure your base after repair you can use the old method... sanding.
