Royal weeeeeee! William and Kate reunited on family ski trip after six weeks apart
2010/4/9: The royal couple jetted to the French Alps for some quality time after missing their first Valentine's Day as a married couple during William's tour of duty in the Falklands.
Love on the slopes: Kate and William spent quality time together in the French Alps
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge jetted to the French Alps for a much-needed holiday with Kate’s family at the well-known Trois Vallees ski resort. The trip was a gift from Carole and Michael Middleton after the newlyweds missed their first Valentine’s Day as a married couple while William was on RAF deployment in the Falklands. A source said: “They were thrilled. It was a real treat for them.” The Middletons are also believed to have paid for the holiday as Kate and William’s budget for trips is “quite small”, according to the source. The royal couple were also joined by Kate’s younger sister Pippa and brother James, as well as Pippa’s rumoured love interest, Earl George Percy. Even in bulky skiwear, Kate, 30 and 28-year-old Pippa still looked effortlessly stylish as they caught up on the slopes.

Prince William, 29, also spent time bonding with Earl Percy as they chatted away on a ski lift. George, 27, and Pippa dated while at Edinburgh University and have been friends for nearly 10 years. The couple are rumoured to be dating after Pippa split with long-term boyfriend, former England cricketer Alex Loudon.

Kate and William were reunited at RAF Brize Norton after the Duke returned from his six week tour of duty in the south Atlantic where he worked as a RAF search and rescue helicopter pilot. Shortly before his deployment, the Duke and Duchess enjoyed another family holiday with the Middletons in January to the Caribbean island of Mustique. Despite spending so much time apart, a source reportedly said William “genuinely enjoys” the company of his in-laws. The source added: “They are a very down-to-earth couple and he can be himself with them. “It is the family atmosphere he never really had when he was growing up.”
The royal couple kept their trip as low-key as possible, even flying from Geneva to Manchester on budget airline EasyJet. Gobsmacked fellow passengers took to Twitter to share their surprise, with one users posting: “Still can’t believe how close I was to Will and Kate.” Kate joined the Queen and Prince Philip on the first leg of the Diamond Jubilee tour to Leicester where she admitted she was missing William “terribly”.
In her role as royal patron of East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices, Kate also travelled to Ipswich to deliver her first public speech at the launch of the organisation’s new facility, the Treehouse. They believe their Isle of Angelsey home near William’s RAF base is the perfect place for a baby’s first year while he completes his tour of duty as a helicopter pilot. The couple will then settle in the more formal surroundings of Kensington Palace in London. A source said: “They see it as a great opportunity to spend the early months as a family in the peace and tranquility of Anglesey, away from the pressure of public life. “Anglesey is perfect for them. The neighbours are welcoming and protective, the farmhouse where they live has the best security, and they love the area. The plan is to start trying after he comes back. "They’ve been telling friends they’d love a family and feel it’s a great time to get cracking.”
