你們美國同雪很安靜，兩年沒講話了？我知道snowrider修禪去了，其他的人都還在滑雪？今年[美國]東部雪況好像還不錯的樣子；西海岸/黑文利有雨沒雪，滑樹雪障礙物很多，好不好滑那就看你的技術了，但是機壓道滑起來倒還是滿不錯的，enjoy the sunny California skiing。

It appears that we are going to have another winterless season. The good news is that spring skiing is already here, wet and heavy, but no slush or ice, the spring snow is quite pleasant to ski.

Well, two months late, guess that the old man winter has finally arrived at Lake Tahoe. We had a few small snow activities a couple days apart in past two weeks, but temperature remained warm, cannot call it, but now we are in a winter storm warning from yesterday until 10am Saturday, and 20+” of new snow already on our deck, yeah, it is totally winter now. Great, expect to do some heavy duty powder skiing in coming days, but meanwhile, got to go shuffle the snow before we can even get out. Cheer.

Mammoth and Squaw Valley (+Alpine Meadows) are still opened, but the snow now kind of too warm and too soggy (i.e. “ slow”) for me; that’s why the last run took me nearly 25 minutes where I normally did it within 4. So I'm too done for the season.

有同感。在黑文利從早上冰凍的雪面到下午slush總是有兩個鐘頭左右“理想” 的雪面，滑起來“隨心所欲” ，是很爽而其爽度是僅次於滑粉雪。

Here is Heavenly snow report on 02-18-19: Powder, 19”/overnight, 31”/24hr, 46”/48hr, 105”/7days.

The storm warning was issued began on Tuesday 10 pm to Thursday 10pm, which was extended to 12pm Sunday, then extended to 10 pm, heavy rain on Wednesday and Thursday, then heavy snow for next three days, and along with the president weekend holiday crowds, the five-day storms made a quite a mess, nevertheless, there is super powder skiing to be have at Heavenly, if you can handle the 31”sierra powder.

Old Lift Trail, Heavenly

Lost trail found. Back in double-chair lifts era, there was a lift between Sky and Canyon. When the old owner American Ski Corp brought the Heavenly, they replaced those double-chair lifts with Quads, and took down the middle lift, so there was an “Old Lift Trail” left behind. As the trail was not maintained, I thought it should be a good powder skiing place after a snow storm, but I never found it until now, here it is, and the powder skiing is what I thought, very good.

Heavenly skiing: evacuation on a thunderstorm threat

For the record, the date is May 25, 2019, the last 4-day memorial holidays opening for Heavenly this year’s incredible long skiing season, made one run in the morning, then the whole mountain is ordered to evacuate on an approaching thunderstorm threat. (And the thunderstorm didn’t happen.)

While the spring skiing is just blossom, the ski season is cut short by coronavirus pandemic. Thou Heavenly plans to reopen in late April or early May, pending “the situation of Covid-19 as well as weather conditions,” but I doubt it would happen, nevertheless, we did make the best of it, the last run of the season.

A good skiing accidentally caught in film. Watch the skier in the yellow jacket ahead of me, he skied a good form. I was skiing in the midsection of Olympic Down Hill, the most steep, icy, and crowded portion of the trail. At the beginning, I wasn’t paid attention to him; just try to find an open space to ski through this slippery and chaotic section. Thou I can control it, but my line, due to extreme icy conditions, was sliding and slipping all over the trail. Then he appeared ahead of me again. I noticed that he has a consistently uniformed dynamic short turns. He skied straight down the hill with a uniform turning, without acceleration or deceleration or slippage, very good skiing. So I followed him, and made turn for turn with him, and my line was stabilized, and I have learned something—ski the icy slopes with dynamic short turn. I was really appreciated it, so I put it on YouTube to share with you ski enthusiasts if you’re interesting improve your icy skiing techniques. It is my kind of good skiing.

Taichi shadow skiing: Flatboarding vs. Carving

It is also an encounter by chance. They dropped in my view and they ski like typical carvers on the mountain. Carving, rides on the edges of the skis, skis like a rollercoaster, smooth and fast, and no brakes, it is a thrill to be able to carve, so it is highly sought after skill. The drawback is that one has to turn to carve, thus reduces the downward/forward speed. My speed was less than theirs, but I can cut into inside of their turns and followed them comfortably, and I like the flexibility of the Flatboarding.

A perfect powder skiing day

I would rate this day, 03-12-21, a “perfect” skiing day. The snow storm that dumps 5” of freshies has moved on, left behind a sunny, light winds, and cool temperatures, beautiful weather, “perfect” for skiing. The snow on the groomed trails is smooth, soft and no ice, and in the trees/fields the powder is soft, firm and no hard bottoms, it is powder skiing all around. It is a “perfect” powder day, only wishing my aging legs could be stronger.

Making a first track, we didn’t intend to make the first track, but it appeared that we did. Given the foul weather and poor visibility, that was very brave of her, as she is not even a fan of powder skiing (she calls this powder “sierra cements.”)

Whitecrane Taichi skiing: Canyonland and skycanyon, Heavenly

The trail is not new, but Canyonland was a high roller terrain park, so this line of skiing is seldom performed. It is a medium difficulty trail, Canyonland is easy if it is groomed, but Skycanyon is a lot more challenge due to its steepness and irregular shapes. Have fun meeting its challenge.

Spring skiing is here. From the top Sky chair to Calbase is the longest [groomed] trail at Heavenly; we have chosen the easiest way down for the lull of that soft, smooth and slick spring skiing, and it delivered.

Whitecrane Taichi skiing: last run of the season, 20-21

It seems only yesterday that I put out my first run of the season online and now it is the last run already? Time sure flies when you have a good time. It is a mild season, no big dumps, no extreme drought but the dry weather persisted, a few small snow storms have come by at crucial times to refresh the snow surface, so, there's no fantastic skiing but skiing remains good all season long; it is a good season. And on this last run, enjoyed watching three double-deckers thrashing ahead of us (rare), and a fancy maneuver of backward turning to fit the [turning] line @03:51 that was so artful; it was a good final run of the season. Another safe and sound skiing season has come and gone, amid covid-19 pandemic, we are grateful, for the years’ hard-trained disciplines.
