什麼是滑粉雪？

以前我放這影片時，有些挑剔的人說那不是滑粉雪，因為雪不夠深，我的雪靴都看的到，那是錯誤的觀念導致錯誤的結論的結果。那什麼又是滑粉雪呢？

想回答這個問題，我們首先要知道什麼是“粉雪” ？一般人的“粉雪” 觀念是根據氣象報告來的，而氣象報告員又喜歡闊大其詞，常把新雪說成粉雪，所以一般人也認為新雪就是粉雪了，其實不然。根據氣象專家的定義／解釋，粉雪乾而冰，不會與別的粉雪粒子黏在一起，所以是“粉” 狀—powder—又因粉雪不黏（滑過的粉雪還是粉雪），粉雪不能用雙手捏成一個雪球，所以能用雙手捏成一個雪球的雪不是粉雪。但是這種定義對滑雪來說，就要求太高了。再作更進一步的了解，我們再看看滑粉雪的特性。滑粉雪很特殊，與其它滑雪都不一樣。其它滑雪雪面都是平面/2D的，而粉雪是立體/3D的，又因為粉雪的形成是雪一點點累集起來的，所以整個粉雪的媒體是全然均勻分配的，而粉雪在雪板上的反應力是一致的，也不會有高低不平的現象，所以滑起來非常平穩，非常爽快，那是為什麼會家子都喜歡/瘋狂滑粉雪的原因。但是，要是滑粉雪時碰到以前的舊地面時，滑粉雪的力道就全然被破壞，不再是滑粉雪了。所以我滑粉雪的定義是不論雪的乾、溼（技術是一樣的），只要滑雪時不碰到舊的地面就是“滑粉雪” 。根據這個定義和我的經驗，在黑文利有6” 以上 的鮮雪就可以滑粉雪了。所以，這影片是在滑粉雪。

Powder skiing alert

The dry spell seems to be over, we hope, and snowstorms are forecast starting tonight through next Wednesday with 2 to 4 feet of snow on the crest of Sierra Mountains and Heavenly may get at least a foot+, get ready for it, it should be very fun. But today we still have one more day spring skiing to go, we’re definitely going to enjoy it for sure. Good luck.

Coronavrirus alert

The good news is the snow has come as forecasted, and the bad news is coronavirus, which is more active in cold and foul weathers. Remember I used to say snowy weather brings powder skiing? Not this time around, we are suspending all cold and foul weather skiing, so to reduce the chance to get sick or catch the virus, so, no powder skiing or skiing this time until sunny spring skiing comes back around. The good news is that snow has come and we’ve got a “dump.”

The bad news is that Vail suspended their ski resorts operations including Heavenly for a week from 3-15-2020 to 3-22-2020 amid coronavirus pandemic, with feet of fresh powder on the ground, what a pity. Stay tuned.
