http://info.51.ca/news/canada/2011/04/17/223401.shtml

告诉他(她)police is coming。

Don't talk to strangers.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_in_Toronto

"Crime in Toronto has been relatively low for a very long period of time; the low crime rate in Toronto has resulted in the city having a reputation as one of the safest large cities in North America. Recent data from Statistics Canada shows that crime has been falling steadily in Toronto's census metropolitan area since 1998, a total drop of 33% for all crimes reported between the period of 1998–2008.[1]"

also just for fun...

This statistics certainly didn't help that family which lost their only daughter.

Just be extra careful. Those things we can do in China without being killed, we cannot do them here.

In English: "When in Rome, do as Romans do"

Statistics never help anyone. They just refute the argument that Toronto is an unsafe city -- at least by general perception.

I have never been to Rome.

But while you are in Canada, maybe you can do as most other Canadians usually do: relax and smile.

and ski a lot!

I might die if i do not take "extra caution". but somehow i feel happier without. It might actually make sense to lead a more carefree but yet shorter life, shorter by a probability of 3.3 homicide cases per 100000 people.

I will die trusting and loving people, rather than live by locking myself in a house.

So your reactions after reading that story of Chinese student got killed are,

First, you say: things are getting better.
Then, you say: relax and smile.

Nobody telling you to lock youself in a house. Just do not open door to people you don't trust, not at 1AM for sure.
And be careful. Don't do those things Canadian people don't do.

So your reactions after reading that story of Chinese student got killed ...

1. Things DO get better. it is simple truth. why cannot one present simple truth? and why cannot one accept simple truth?

2. yes. relax and smile. or else please prove you can bring back lives by crying.

people die everyday. so should we mourn everyday and never smile or relax? Please do not "fabricate" my argument by making it look like "we should laugh at people who died". I never meant that.

Indeed, opening door to strangers at 1am is not wise. But things like "never talk to strangers, etc" border on being fear mongering.

"Don't talk to strangers." is not from me.
Mothers here educate their daughers this way. Chinese girls should follow the same rule. Otherwise, they are easy targets. Some Chinese women make really stupid mistake here. Some people say, they are like children.
