Seems some of my friendlies are persuasive enough to draw me into a discussion on the forum to establish some clarification of erroneous comments by posters. I express these comments in an attempt to put facts and legitimacy to the discussion, rather than let people with personal feelings of animosity and defensiveness run amuck.
First a little history, I did not learn anything about skiing or teaching mechanics from PSIA systems. I am openly known for rejecting them from the on set of my involvement with PSIA. In fact, I pasted my ass cert and full cert and demo team selection in one year. I was never a member of PSIA before that; in fact I didn't even know what the Teaching and Skiing
Models were during the Demo team tryouts.
My background is in ski racing as a former Canadian Ski Team member. I have skied in World Cup races and have won FIS races. I was also the overall Eastern Pro Champion. I was a Master Coach in the USSA coaching system, and US Ski Team development coach. I have coached world cup winners and Gold medalists. I continue to world with world cup skiers with alignment and
boot modification to this day.
I had a comprehensive technical background long before I was a PSIA Demo Team member. I wrote the first comments in the PSIA manual about accessing the side cut and using tipping to engage a ski and that is clearly attributed to me in the manual. I also wrote the basic understanding and made the presentation that is presently in the PSIA manual for alignment
and how it affects skiing movements. This first appeared in an extensive article that I did for the journal. The drawings in the manual are also mine.
I understand PSIA trying to take credit for my developments and interpreting into their language what I wrote in my "Anyone can be an Expert Skier book and the PMTS Instructor Manual. I know these have been dissected by demo team members in their attempts to include as much as my materials and ideas as possible without infringing on copyright and trademarks. I know this went on Harald Harbfirst hand from someone who was on the committee to write the resent manual. I understand how some people would
like to take credit for my work. I clearly stated to a PSIA official last week that if any more of my materials are translated into PSIA speak that I would have to protect myself. I openly offer my materials to PSIA without restriction, as long as the foot notes and references are properly associated. I have already done this for the Central Division.
I am very open to working with PSIA to evolve ski instruction and am doing so on a number of fronts. It seems on the inside of the organization progress is being made, but some on the outside want to continue to defend, misrepresent me, and create animosity.

That letter was written back in 2003. At that time you can see HH still wanted to work with psia. Now he has changed his attitude. HH now says on his forum that he no longer wishes to collaborate with psia. Ironically, it seems psia is also changing their attitude - only in the opposite way. HH mentioned on his forum that some psia top official asked him about establishing some sort of "cross-certification" between psia and pmts levels, and HH rejected it outright. HH was probably really pissed off during the past ten years by all kinds of blind attacks launched by those dummies (due to fear or stupidity), or maybe he realized (again this is what he said on his form) that with the Internet, youtube, blog, twitter, facebook (yes he is using all of them!), he doesn't need psia's help or anyone else's help to promote pmts coz people see the difference with their own eyes (if they have any). Time will tell.
