Hey Sponge, it depends on what structure and wax you use. Too keep it short, brass brush are good for removing colder wax from fine structure, nylon are good for removing warmer wax from course structure. For starter you can buy a brass/nylon combo brush which will handle most of your needs. It is important to brush after waxing. Structure on your base that fill with wax will create unecessary suction that will slow down your ski, sometimes you may even feel the ski 'draggy'. Make sure you regularly clean your brush though, eventually the bristles will cloak up with wax and it won't do what it's meant to do.

I heard you're coming to tremblant, for real this time??

thanks boys, looks like it's important and I will get a brass/nylon combo brush, now, all of you mentioned that removal of wax, if you removed all wax, what's the point of putting them on in the first place?

P-tex is a material that can actually absorb wax. That's the point of hot waxing, you're actually pushing the wax into the base by using heat. Excessive wax on the surface are not needed. However, cold wax will need a higher temperature setting for the wax to properly sink into the base. So NEVER wax your ski with cold wax directly when your base is dry. Skis that are new, freshly grind/sturctured or with a dry base should always be prep with a few layers of warm wax first.

从swix给racer修板程序节选的,应该不用这么麻烦吧!

Brushe ...

Thanks for the pdf that's good resource. Race preperation is a whole different science though. What swix covered is actually a full prep for race ski, which is actually very complicated, in my humble opinion not neccessery to us average joe - their process include 2 times of hot scraping - then apply base cleaner - clean and brush (above steps are just to completely clean the base from dirt) - apply a layer of cold wax to lift any remaining p-tex hair from grinding/structuring - scrape - brush - then finally prep the ski with warm wax - scrape and brush with a steel brush to further open up the structure and should be repeat 5 to 10 times before ski was put on the snow. Don't forget all these steps are just for prep. Tech will always apply a final layer of glide wax before race start. And different tech will always have their own trade secret. Rumors said tech from atomic has the best secrets, but who knows. Any way back to the real world, I've found that different people like to prep their ski differently. I prefer to, after grinding or structuring. Lightly brush it with a steel brush - 2 times of hot scraping to clean the base - 2 to 3 layers of warm wax ( I don't scrap them in between though, I'll let it cool and run my iron with a few pass again to further push the existing wax in, save wax and less mess) - scrap and brush with a nylon brush - apply another layer of cold wax to 'lock in' the warm wax also to further lift remaining micro p-tex hair. Usually this is good enough prep for a season. But with our abrasive + men made snow eastern condition sometimes I'll find the base will still oxidize pretty bad around mid-season. And will need to do another prep again.
